Visit Potsdam in a day.
Come along with me on a private tour of the nearby town of Potsdam, former residence of major Prussian rulers. If you want to understand the history of Berlin, you need to venture into Potsdam too. We will explore monuments and churches, architecture and gardens, both old and new. We will step into the world of celebration of Frederick the Great and visit the relatively unknown palace of Neue Kammern within the Sanssouci gardens, where the splendour of Frederician Rococo is still alive. (Inside visit of Neue Kammern only April to October.) The interior of this palace and guest house will have you understand art and architecture of the 18th century in Prussia and we will even talk about Ovid’s Metamorphoses, the cutting of jasper and Bill Clinton! Sanssouci and Potsdam tell so much about Frederick’s and also Prussia’s mindset and how all of that influenced Berlin. A travel in time.

Visit the centre of the town of Potsdam and understand some of the extentions of the 16th and 17th century, such as the Dutch quarter. Understand the changes Potsdam witnessed along its history that are still palpable today. Stroll along the gardens of Sanssouci and see next to the Neue Kammern the various palaces and pavilions that different Prussian rulers of the Hohenzollern dynastie have left for the world to admire.

We will also touch on the topic of the Cold War and the relevant ramifications for Potsdam. Having said that, you will also see parts of Potsdam that some people consider as ugly – and some other people consider worthy of keeping. There are some controversial discussions that can be lead and I would love to introduce you to such contemporary aspects of today’s Potsdam.

On this tour, we will have the commodity of a private van and driver, starting at your hotel, enjoying a fun day with plenty of insights, foto-oportunities and hopefully nice sunshine. → Please contact me for a quote.
